How can I replicate an enclosed deck with fence panels?

Hi brains trust. I am hoping to replicate this enclosed deck panelling. Would bunnings stock any fence panels or similar that I could use? I can't seem to find any with wide enough slats.

Thank you

Hello @nataliecan

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about replicating a decking fence panel.

I suggest looking at 42 x 19mm 2.7m Pre-Oiled Merbau Solid Screening or SpecRite 90 x 19mm Merbau Pre-Oiled Decking and cutting it in half to create the thin strips you're after. The best part about Merbau is that it is well suited for screening applications and is a hardwood. It's perfect for outdoor use and can either be oiled or painted in the colour that you want.

Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Re: How can I replicate an enclosed deck with fence panels?

Good Evening @nataliecan

I like @EricL's suggestion tho painting the merbau after might be a pain (in 12months time not so much  ) For longetivity I would certainly go with the merbau (I have used it on my pool deck and privacy screen and its lasted over 10 years with very little look after it)

I was looking for some square end pickets as I am sure I have seen 1.5m in store and they would suit your use perfectly. The hand rail and the base rail and thenm a top rail and pretty much all you are doing is building a small fence at height  Id go with the 900mm pickets and then the taller ones topside. If you wanted something fancey then you could go with the decorative ends and mount them so the bottom rail has the pointed end and the top rail has the pointed end. You will just have to align them so they line up.

Cypress Pine Pickets are the ones I was thinking of. The top and bottom rail could be installed a little lower on the top rail so the decorative ends are showcased, the bottom rail would be the same type of spacing.

Now for an outside the square thinking just in case  How to make D.I.Y. screens this summer The panel at the top of the page is what I really wanted to show you, You could use the paneling at full vertical height for your patio, or even just an end showcase wall. I have used it under my outside bench and it looks quiet nice.

Re: How can I replicate an enclosed deck with fence panels?

Hi @nataliecan

The most economical way of building this would be with one of the methods @Dave-1 or @EricL mention. If the wall. gets smashed by the afternoon sun, I would consider have aluminium screen made which will last for decades without maintenance. Though it's not the same design, the phot below shows a screen I had made up in aluminium. If's thats of interest, Google "aluminium privacy screens"
