The tiles in my front entrance have cracked .I propose to remove the cracked tiles and fit new ones.
could i be guided as to how to remove the cracked tiles and fit new ones...Out of the four which are cracked (Photos attached ) .. two tiles will need to be cut and fitted. Please advise how to remove the old tiles, cut the tiles and fix the same.
Hi @nfds
Hit the tiles with the corner of a hammer (not the flat of the hammer) To cause the tile to break more. With gloves as tiles are sharp like glass lift up the broken pieces with a flat bladed screwdriver or good scraper and bin it asap scrape old grout lines off surrounding tile edges ready for new tile/
To cut a tile you need an angle grinder and mask and diamond blade. good for odd shapes and L cuts. your tile looks 400mm so a hand tile cutter to small.
Apply any tile glue 10mm notched trowel and lower the tile on the glue tapping it in place with a white rubber hammer or the ball of your hand so it is level with the other tiles. if you push to hard lift the tile and start again.
Hope this helps
Hi @nfds,
Great advice from @Jewelleryrescues! Just to add on, after you've removed the old tiles as suggested, make sure to clean up any adhesive residue on the subfloor to ensure a good bond with the new tiles.
When cutting the new tiles, an angle grinder works well for irregular cuts, but if you're doing simple straight cuts, a tile cutter could also be useful if the tile is under 400mm. You can score the tile with the cutter and then snap it along the scored line.
When applying the adhesive, be sure to spread it evenly with the notched trowel and press the new tile firmly into place. After setting, leave the tiles to cure for at least 24 hours before grouting. For grouting, ensure the grout is applied evenly between tiles, wiping off excess with a damp sponge as you go.
Lastly, don’t forget to seal the grout once it’s dried, which will help protect it from water and staining over time.
