I’m looking to derust cast iron table and chairs. I’m interested in any advise as to getting rid of rust

I will start by suggesting you take a look at the Bunnings advice for cleaning rusty tools as I'm sure the same techniques are applicable to your outdoor furniture. I'll add the video below.

How bad is the rust @Maddogmick54? A photo might help us.

Sometimes just a wire brush is enough before repainting. Next step I'd try is just something like vinegar on the brush or a scourer, before moving to a rust remover like https://www.bunnings.com.au/chemtech-1l-rust-off-rust-remover_p1107356
