Can you tint an old paint tin?

Can you tint an old paint tin?

Hi. I have a 10 litre tin of Dulux weathershield exterior low sheen in vivid white. I bought from Bunnings a while ago and now no longer have the receipt. I want to be able to have it tinted to Colorbond Pale Eucalypt. Can I purchase from Bunnings the suitable amount of tint for this colour to add to the 10 litres. How much would it cost for how much tint I need?

Re: Can you tint an old paint tin?

Has the paint tin been opened @deakz. Has any of the paint been used?

Re: Can you tint an old paint tin?

Hello @deakz

If you purchased the paint with your card, you should be able to show the team at the store your bank statement when the paint was purchased. If it has not been that long, I believe you can bring the can of paint to the store and explain to the customer service team that you wish to have the paint tinted. You also have the option of purchasing the tint separately for the paint if you wish. But it would be best to have it tinted properly so that the paint can will be mixed in the machine.

Can you please tell me how long you've had the can of paint, and which store did you purchase it from?

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: Can you tint an old paint tin?

Thanks for your reply, Eric.

I bought around 6 months ago from Wonthaggi, Victoria store but paid cash. I wasn’t 100% on the colour decision so put off the Colorbond tint choice. Only just made the choice to use Pale Eucalypt.

Re: Can you tint an old paint tin?

Hello @deakz

I've just been in contact with Bunnings Wonthaggi store and the paint base you have (vivid white) is not compatible with the Colorbond Pale Eucalypt you're after. It can be tinted to green, but it will be nowhere close to the Colorbond deep green you are after. I propose bringing your paint with you and looking for David (he'll be on this weekend) the paint specialist at the store. He'll be more than happy to speak to you in regards to your paint options.

I've explained to them that you could not decide on the colour at the time but purchased the paint anyway.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: Can you tint an old paint tin?

Thank you. I’ll seek David’s advice.

My heart is set on Pale Eucalypt so you’re saying Vivid White base isn’t right to use. I guess I don’t know right now whether I can exchange my base colour for the correct 10 litre base so I can get the Pale Eucalypt tint I require.

Hi @deakz

I propose proceeding to the store and speaking to David in regards to the paint colour and the base that is supposed to be used. Perhaps David can offer alternatives for you.
