Ideas to get a wall unit like this

Hi All.

I'm looking at ideas how I might be able to achieve this image below with flat packs.

I contacted a cabinet maker, and the quote range was 10k - 15k which is way out of my range.

I've got a width of 4500 and a height of 2400 to work with.

I'm thinking potentially Kitchen cabinets for the tall ones ... but not sure what do do for the middle bit (which will be around 2700 wide if I use 600wide cabinets on the left and right)

For the bench top and the long shelf, what could I use that's 2700 long ... I'm thinking something with a veneer, but I know from experience I'm not great at laminating myself!

Also, how would I make that shelf floating, but also strong enough to hold books?

This is the space I'm working with:

Thanks

Hey @MitchellMc

Thanks for sharing. I was getting stuck with Kaboodle.

How did you get that shelf and backing in there and the top for the drawers?

Thanks

Hi @Itai

That's some spot-on rendering by @MitchellMc! Just to show you what it might look like with the 1200mm tall cabinets, I've drawn another render for you. It also includes the measurements of the cabinet, please keep in mind that these are recommendations only and can be adjusted to your needs. The kickboard space is standard which is 140mm.

I've placed a 75" inch TV with a common size of 1650mm x 950mm, but there is enough space for an 85" should you wish to install a bigger TV.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: Ideas to get a wall unit like this

Magic @Itai, pure magic! I can't give away all my trade secrets! 😀 No, but seriously, I used cut-to-measure panels sprinkled with a little illusion. The horizontal fly panel is used on top of the drawers, but it won't expand long enough for your width, so you need two. I also double-stacked them to get that nice thickness. Those same fly panels are used for the shelf.

Getting the backing is a little trickier. Even though you could use vertical cut-to-measure panels to fill that space, the planner won't let you raise them up in the air as it thinks you want to use them for the end of pantry cabinets placed on the floor. To get around this, I just used slimline wall cabinets and stuck them through the back wall, so only their doors were exposed. That gives you the same look as a flat panel.

Re: Ideas to get a wall unit like this

Haha, wow ... that is some absolute trickery @MitchellMc

Thanks @EricL for those designs. They look great. Now to have a chat about if we should go 4 pantry's, or 2 (or 3).

In terms of the shelf itself, what would be recommended to use ... wood the special order people be able to cut something to size matching the cabinetry colour?

Thanks

Re: Ideas to get a wall unit like this

Hello @Itai

I suggest visiting your local store and speaking to the In-Store Kitchen Specialist. They'll be able to quote you cabinet prices as well as benchtop styles. Have a good look at the door colours and finishes, you'll also be able to find out if you can request a custom-sized panel that you can use as a shelf with the finish that you like. I also recommend thinking about using timber panels for the shelf and painting it in a neutral or contrasting colour depending on what you like.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
