How to seal cavity door draughts?

We have three cavity doors in our new house. One thing I don't like about them is the draughts and gaps around them to the door jambs. May I please request some suggestions how to seal these draughts. Pictures attached.

Re: Seal cavity doors draughts

Hi @foxhound,

Thank you for your question about covering gaps around your cavity doors to reduce draughts.

On the latch side and the top of the door, your best option is to attach timbers such as this 42 x 18mm Pine FJ Primed DAR using brad nails. Having one on each side of the door gives a channel for the door to run in and a pocket for it to close against.

For the bottom of the door, it is not as easy as you don't want to attach something that will become a trip hazard. My suggestion is to use a draught stopper which can be moved and put in place when you have the door closed to reduce the draught under the door.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: How to seal cavity door draughts?

Hi @foxhound,

It would work on the face of the door that closes against the jamb, but it will not work on the top of the door. It's worth noting that it may affect the door's ability to latch as it will change how far from the jamb the door will sit when closed.

If you were fine with just closing the gap on the left and using a draught stopper on the floor, then this is certainly an option.

Let me know what you think.

Jacob
