How to replace Coonara 1900 flue?

Coonara fireplace model 1900

Needing to replace the flue as it had crumbled due to poor maintenance, concerns are there isn’t enough of a lip on the top plate to connect new flue. Can I have the flue inserted into the opening? Or will this potentially leave a gap for smoke to escape? Looking to use a flexi flue. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: How to replace Coonara 1900 flue?

Hi @Joelb,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.

Unfortunately, I am no expert on fireplaces, but I would expect that simply inserting a new flue into the old one without a proper seal, would allow a pretty significant gap where smoke could escape.

Your best bet would be to contact the manufacturer for their guidance. As they specialise in fireplaces, they will be better suited to assist.

Allow me to tag @Nailbag and @Dave-1 to see if they have any knowledge of fireplaces that they can offer.

Good Evening @Joelb

I am hesitant to offer ways forward, mostly because of my lack of experience in intstalling fireplaces and flu's. The state that you have described the base of the flu to be in potentially means that there may be other issues to check. I would suggest to have someone in the fireplace install industry have a look at it. Nothing worse then if there is an issue down the track and your insurer turns around and says "who installed such and such"

Hi @Joelb

sorry but again as with both @JacobZ and @Dave-1 I have no expertise here. Its a very old fireplace and I would be inclined to contact wood firebox installers to assess and advise based on current regulations.
