Re: How to paint buffet and determine whether it is a veneer?

Hi @vivienne1,

Thank you for your question about painting your buffet.

Due to the repeating pattern in the timber, I believe it has a timber veneer on it.

Regardless, of whether it is a veneer or laminate, my advice would be to give it a light sand with 120 grit sandpaper, then remove any sawdust with a soft brush, followed by a good clean with a soft cloth and diluted sugar soap.

Once clean, coat the piece with a coat of Dulux PRECISION Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer, allow it to fully dry and then paint with 2-3 coats of Dulux Aquanamel in a colour and finish of your choice. Make sure you allow the paint to fully dry between coats.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for tips… I will get to my Bunnings this weekend .. good to know process is the same as want to paint inside cupboard as well..

I want to cut the top shelving peices off .. so guessing I will have to fix the cut mark.. with veneer wood strip.. ?

Re: How to paint buffet and determine whether it is a veneer?

Hello @vivienne1

If it is out of immediate view, then you could technically just paint the top section, but if it is going to get seen, I suggest using laminate edging to cover the exposed timber.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
