How to make these concrete-look shelves?

Hi Guys

I am in need of some help. I came across these DIY ikea shelves which have been finished with a concrete finish and curved in the corners.

As the original project is from someone in France I am struggling to figure out what product I could use to achieve the same look - could someone advise what I could use?

It seems they used a pre-mixed tile adhesive paste. I was looking at the below product but not sure if it will be thick enough to achieve the curved corners.

or am I better off going for something like this?

Re: DIY concrete shelf

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @jscib. It's sensational to have you join us and many thanks for your question about D.I.Y. concrete shelves.

From what I've seen of these, it appears that either tile adhesivecornice cement or plaster of paris is used. I'm not sure about the medium texture paint, but it is not a cement-based product like the three I've mentioned. It could potentially work, but I haven't seen it used and it wouldn't achieve those corners by itself. You'd have to build them first with cardboard or whatever you are using.

Let me mention @lieselroberts to see if she has any thoughts.

Re: DIY concrete shelf

Thanks Mitchell.

Hi Jscib,

I used Selleys White for Life grout (purchased from Bunnings) for this diy side table project.

I think you could definitely achieve the curved corners by adding a thick layers of grout 🙂

Good luck!
