I have recently had the floors replaced in my property. Previously there was vinyl where the tile currently is. Now the tiles have been installed, they sit higher than the vinyl did previously and the rubber edge / transition strips no longer go into the metal groove.
can you please let me know what my options are?
Hi @zb96,
It looks like the height difference between your tile and carpet is creating a challenge for your transition strip.
Could you clarify if the transition strip doesn’t fit onto the existing track at all, or if it fits but keeps coming off? If it fits but doesn’t stay in place, you might be able to glue it down using a strong adhesive such as construction adhesive.
Currently, the installed track you have is specifically designed for the trim you’re using. If you want to install a different style of transition strip that accommodates the height difference, the existing track may need to be removed.
To recommend the best option, could you let us know the height difference between the tile and carpet? Ideally, a tile trim should have been installed during the tiling process to handle such differences.
One potential solution is the Roberts 3.3m Silver Floating Floor Junior Trim, which can be paired with the Roberts Ramp and Cover Trim Plug to accommodate various height differences. While it’s possible to drill through the existing track to fit this system, it would be better to remove the track entirely for a more secure fit of the trim plugs.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
