How to fix a cut cornice?

Hello,

My plumber cut a ~30cm hole in the cornice in my bedroom to access some pipes. Is it better to try to patch it with a piece of cornice or to remove the existing cornice all along this wall and replace the whole piece?

Cheers

Re: How to fix a cut cornice?

Hi @Tomb,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

I'd suggest it's easiest to simply cut a small piece to fill the gap that has been created.

Check out @Nailbag's comment on How to repair cracked cornice? Measure your cornice using this photo as a guide and select a suitable product to match the existing cornice.

Clean up the opening and cut your cornice to fit the space.

You can then use Gyprock CSR Cornice Cement, following CSR's guide to set it in place. Ensure you put some cornice cement on all four edges so the gaps get filled when it is set in place.

Once dry, sand everything smooth and paint.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob
