Hi,
I am wanting to change the colour of my stained wooden door to black.
Do I need to sand? Do I need to add a primer etc? Can I just use paint or a stain?
Hello @kpreston
Thanks for sharing your question about changing the colour of your front door. In order to get a good finish on the surface, I suggest sanding the surface very well using a detail sander. This will allow you to get into the tiny corners of the door. Because you are painting the door there is no need to sand it all the way down to timber. But it must be sanded thoroughly so that you have an ideal surface to paint on. I propose using Zinsser 1L Grey Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Undercoat Primer-Sealer Stain Blocker as you will be painting the door in a dark colour. For the topcoat I recommend Dulux 1L Enamel Paint Aquanamel Gloss Black.
