How can I attach desk legs to an 18mm thick Specrite panel?

I’m trying to build a new computer desk and had an 1800x600x18 Specrite panel cut down to 1500mm before considering the rest of the project. After a little googling I’ve seen that this might be too thin to attach a set of legs to, I was planning on using the legs off my old ikea desk, very similar to these taskmaster-700-x-50mm-black-steel-table-leg.

Would it be safe to attach these legs to the desk? If so what screws should I use? If it’s not safe are there any other options for attaching desk legs to this piece of wood or do I need to buy another thicker piece?

Hello @marcusm

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your table legs.

If the legs, you are attaching to the panel is similar to the Taskmaster, I suggest using Zenith 8G x 20mm Galvanised Button Head Stitching Timber Screws. Please remember to place the screw beside the panel along with the leg at its side to make sure that it will not pass through the surface of your table. Another option is to screw and attach pine panels under the table where the legs will be attached. In this manner you can use larger robust screws to hold the legs in place.

If you need further assistance, please let me know.

Eric
