Built onto the wall. Sliding ladder to come at a later time. Purchased the pine pieces, stain, tools and fixtures from Bunnings. Start with cutting pieces to size, use jigsaw to cut out ceiling and floor skirting so that sides attach flat to wall. Stain all pieces. Attach shelf holders using spirit level. Then attach sides to wall with fixtures. Then sit shelves on holders.

Re: Floor to ceiling bookcase

Hello @Kindrs

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's fabulous to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your shelving project.

Your custom-built shelf has made the storage of the items on your shelves much more relaxed. When you compare it to the old shelving system, it looked so crowded and there is definitely no more room for extra items. The open gaps between shelves now make it so much easier to identify the items on the shelf.

Again, thank you for sharing your shelving project.

Eric

Looks good!

A section of it reminds me of a mural I painted in 1990.

What was your method of attaching the bookcases to the wall?

Re: Floor to ceiling bookcase

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Kindrs. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for sharing this lovely project.

You've created some excellent and functional shelving there. It's great to see your collection beautifully on show.

It looks like a considerable amount of work went into this project. How long did it take to complete, and did you encounter any difficulties whilst constructing it?

Thanks again for sharing, and I look forward to hearing about all the other projects around your house and garden.

Re: Floor to ceiling bookcase

I did most of the construction work in a few hours each day over three days. That was affixing the pieces to the wall and the shelving holders. The longest time was staining and letting dry all the pieces. Which I did over a week for the shelving. I would then furnish once a shelf was complete. Everything thing was quite simple, though using the jigsaw to make cuts outs for the skirting and cornice was trial and error. Especially the Cornice as I didn’t have a mould. I had to practice on spare wood to get the right shape. It isn’t perfect as I’m not a carpenter lol, but it looks good. Bunnings cairns helped a lot with efficiency as I measured what I needed first and then got the cut shop to cut the pine to the lengths I wanted.
