Re: hot water safety valve

HI @Shan56

You can try operation the valve 10 times to try get it to close but if it failed once time for a replacement.

The Safety valve has a pressure rating specific to your hot water service to wrong one installed could cause your tank to rupture.

Furthermore, you are dealing with water combined with electricity (a shocking combination) best to get a good local plumber on this one.

Hope this helps. Part cost around $70 plus 1-hour labour.

Re: hot water safety valve

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Shan56. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about relief valves.

If your hot water pressure relief valve has opened automatically and won't close, it’s important to address the issue promptly. The valve typically opens when the pressure or temperature inside the water heater exceeds safe operating levels, releasing excess water to prevent damage or danger. However, if the valve won't close, it may indicate a problem with the water heater itself or a failure of the valve. This situation could be caused by either excessive pressure or temperature within the heater or a malfunction of the valve itself, which might be stuck or worn out. To resolve this, you should turn off the water heater and the water supply to prevent further pressure buildup and potential damage. The, contact a licensed plumber to assess the system. They will determine whether the issue lies with the water heater or the relief valve and recommend the appropriate solution.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
