Re: Which epoxy countertop is used for the undercoat

Hi @Aco,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Were you planning on using an epoxy coating such as this Feast Watson 1m² Glass Finish?

If so, they'll require some good preparation in terms of cleaning the surface, but they don't generally use a primer.

If you were looking for a paint coating like the Dulux Renovation Range, you would use the Renovation Range Primer as part of the full system.

Let me know what you think and if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: Which epoxy countertop is used for the undercoat

Hi @Aco

Is your benchtop a laminated benchtop or a stone benchtop? If it is a laminated benchtop, we'll have to double check with our supplier, as Jacob mentioned the Feast Watson 1m² Glass Finish does not require a primer. Compatibility also plays a major role in the effectivity of the resin. If the primer is not made to work with the resin it will not work properly. If you are not using the Feast Watson product, I suggest contacting the supplier of your product and asking them what primer goes with the resin you'll be using. In this manner you can be sure that they will work together.

Thank you for your patience.

Re: Which epoxy countertop is used for the undercoat

Hi. it is a laminated benchtop that I repainted a few years ago with two pac. The paint is very strong and does not peel or crack. It has been scratched over the years and I would like to do Epoxy resin. I just don't know which undercoat to use.

Best regards

Re: Which epoxy countertop is used for the undercoat

Hi @Aco,

If you applied a two-pack paint, then our Feast Watson 1m² Glass Finish would not be suitable as it's only designed for timber benchtops.

There is no undercoat for epoxy resin. When applying an epoxy resin, the existing resin is abraided to key the surface.

What sounds like it needs to happen for your two-pack surface is that you need to sand it lightly to remove the scratches and then spray it with a clear two-pack product. We don't carry two-pack products as they are considered trade-grade.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
