my old dishwasher broke down and leak water into my floating timber floor boards. My insurance claim was denied so I am having to DIY. The flooring was only affected in my open plan kitchen around a kitchen island, the sink, stove, etc. As a budget friendly optionI would like to install the Hanwood Self adhesive final tiles in this area to create a kitchen zone. With floating timber floors remaining in the rest of the open plan area I need to ensure that the final floor level height is the same as the timber flooring. the height of the timber flooring from the concrete foundation is 1.5 cm. I am aware that I will need to put a waterproof barrier on the concrete, but would very much welcome some guidance on what products to use between the concrete slab and the vinyl tiles, that we both raise the height and be appropriate for the tiles to stick to in a kitchen area. Thank you so much in advance! Photos are attached for general reference
Hi @Lyn23,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.
Have a look at my colleague @MitchellMc's advice in How to stick secure stick vinyl tiles on concrete floor. This is some good general advice for your situation.
Can you advise which specific self-adhesive tiles you are looking to use? The Hanwood self-adhesive tiles all appear to be 2.5mm thick, but I'd like to be certain the advice I am giving is relevant.
If they are 2.5mm thick, you will need to raise the level of the concrete by 12.5mm for the tiles to be flush with the floorboards. This can be done with floor leveller.
Once the floor leveller has fully set, make sure it is free from dust or contaminants before laying your tiles.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for the super quick response! I am looking at the Hanwood Modern Terrazo tiles. Once I’ve used a floor leveller would it be ok to apply the tiles straight to that or is an underlay required?
im assuming I should also put in a divider between the floorboards and the vinyl
thank you again!
Hi @Lyn23,
Vinyl flooring does not typically use an underlay as it needs to stick directly to the substrate.
In your situation, you should apply your floor leveller, allow it to fully cure and then clean it to remove any dust or residues before attaching your tiles.
Yes, you'll want to use a transition trim between the floorboards and your vinyl tiles. Check out the range of QEP 33m Roberts Vinyl Edge Caps. They would be a good option for your situation.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
