Hi, wondering type of resealing to use after mould removal around kitchen sink edges. I'm looking at Selleys 300g Clear Wet Area Waterproof Silicone Sealant (https://www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-300g-clear-wet-area-waterproof-silicone-sealant_p1230999).
Also, I'm using "Mould away" to remove the mould. Is there anything better? Cheers.
Hi @mchael2n9
You are on the right track the silicone you picked is fine
However I would say you wont gain alot by using silicon here as the under sink to bench white seal looks perfectly intact.
Use of silicone can trap mould under the silicone it can grow and you cant get at it to clean it so silicone here might back fire and a silicone bead may look less nice.
Domestos is a strong mould remover and cleaner never used mould away I am sure it will do the job just as well.
I would get an old tooth brush and use you Mould away to get right in under the crack where the mould still is as it can grow back under the silicon.
Scrub in so mould remover and let it sit and repeat until you can see the white under sink seal.
Then masking tape the sink and bench so you can get the neatest silicon finish.

I agree with @Jewelleryrescue that if the silicone around the sink is in otherwise good condition, cleaning it thoroughly should be sufficient. If you’re using "Mould Away," it sounds like it could be a good choice, though I’m not personally familiar with it. Another option you could consider is Selley's Rapid Mould Killer, which is a strong cleaner designed for mould removal.
If the silicone has become permanently stained or damaged, you may need to apply a new layer. However, the clear silicone you mentioned might not be the best choice if you’re trying to hide the discoloured white silicone underneath. In this case, using white silicone might be a better option to maintain a cleaner, more uniform appearance.
If you decide to go ahead with resealing, be sure to mask off the sink and bench area carefully before applying the silicone to ensure a neat finish.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
