I am after some ideas on what I could do with my kitchen that we will begin in a few months.
- Currently I have no pantry or place for a fridge.
-The cabinet doors and benchtops cannot be updated with paint as they have water damage.
- The louvred window will be taken out and closed in.
- The fireplace removed.
- I was thinking of replacing all doors and panels with white, black handles and oak benchtops.
- Adding a fridge cavity and pantry cupboards on the wall where the fireplace is.
- Adding a bin drawer next to dishwasher.
- Removing the centre bench and replacing with an island bench with seating going in the same direction as the pantry wall.
I'm just not sure if I've got the best configuration. Ideas welcome please.
Hello @AnitaP
Thank you so much for posting pictures of your kitchen and your preferred layout. I had to adjust some of the cabinetry in your sketch so that they would conform to the Kaboodle cabinetry system. I believe your proposed layout is just right for the space available. Moving the tall pantry and fridge cabinet to the other side would make the area look very cramped. The only extra cabinet I added is the microwave cabinet which your installer will have to custom build.
As for the island cabinetry, I placed a 900mm 3 drawer pot and pan cabinet a 900mm base cabinet and a 450mm base cabinet. I've included everything you requested on the list, but I had to add a 900mm cabinet base for your sink. Please have a look at the layout and tell me what you think.
If you wish to see it in another configuration please let me know.

Omg! Thank you so much @EricL for your hard work. It looks so much better to me now I can see it like this. I think it could work well. Can't wait to have the fridge in the kitchen and an actual pantry!
@EricL what do you think about the spaces on either side of the island. Is that enough space for walking through?
Hi @AnitaP,
@EricL will be back after the weekend, and I trust he'll jump back into the conversation.
The drawing Eric has provided is to scale, and it appears like there will be plenty of clearance for walking by the island. The cabinetry on either side is 600mm deep, and the island top is 900mm. So that's 2100mm of your 3650mm width. 1500mm with be left, and that's 775mm on either side of the island. 775mm for the walkways would be considered adequate. You might even like to offset the island bench, so there is slightly more room on the chair/fridge side.
Mitchell
Hello @AnitaP
As mentioned by my colleague @MitchellMc you can offset the island out a little bit further so that you have more space to walk through. The other options are to shrink the island to 1800mm which was your original suggestion in your sketch or have a single bowl sink and a smaller sink base cabinet. Any of the three methods will work. Let me know which one you would like to see and I'll modify the drawing for you.
If you have any other requests for your kitchen layout, please let me know.
Eric
Thank you @MitchellMc @EricL
I think this will work great.
Hello @AnitaP
I'm very excited to see the start of your kitchen renovation. I look forward to any updates you can provide on the demolition, painting and cabinet installation of your kitchen. I'm sure our members will also be keen to see your progress when you start the revamp.
Please note that you can bring these sketches to your nearest local store and ask the in-store kitchen specialist to quote you the cabinet list. I also recommend asking for a quote on the removal and installation of your kitchen.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
