Hi there,
I am doing a kitchen reno (a complete hut) with the tiles coming completely off. We are going with engineered timber floors by HARO. They are going to be glued down. The floorer said that he is putting a moisture barrier glue that acts as both a moisture barrier and the glue itself waterproof as to prevent water from seeping through. Also, the glue will be applied 150m up where the pipe fittings (sink).
My question is: does this sound right, can a moisture barrier do both? or does the waterproofing need to be done separately?
Thanks
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @fireflies647. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about waterproofing kitchen floors.
As I am unfamiliar with the flooring and presumably the glue, I am unable let you know whether the glue acts as a moisture barrier as well. Perhaps if you were able to ask the installer what glue they intend to use, you'd be able to verify its properties with the manufacturer.
It's entirely possible that a specialised glue could have these properties, but without further details, I couldn't confirm. If the glue were one of our products, I'd be more than happy to contact the manufacturer for you to find out.
Whether the waterproofing needs to be done separately would be a question best addressed by the manufacturer of the engineered flooring.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
