Hello we just brought our first home and funds are tight so looking fir a cheap way to renovate/ update the kitchen cheaply any suggestions ?
Hi @liz40syd,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you join us.
The room looks nice and bright, but the cabinetry could certainly use some updating, you could also update the splashback as well and consider some new flooring.
I'd suggest having a look at the Dulux Renovations Range of paints as a relatively cheap way of updating the existing cabinets.
You might like to check out How to Paint Laminate Kitchen Cabinets for some guidance on this process.
You could also look at replacing the splashback with an acrylic panel splashback or even subway tiles to match the cabinetry.
You can have a look at How To Install An Acrylic Splashback and How To Tile a Splashback for some guidance on these processes.
Finally, you could install a floating hybrid floor over the top of the existing flooring to give a nice new look. Something like this Blackbutt Waterproof Hybrid Plank Flooring would look nice.
Allow me to tag some of our wonderful members to see if they have any ideas or inspiration to offer, @Herrenovacation, @Nailbag, @daniknight4, @diy_hausdesigns.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi @liz40syd Congratulations on the new home.
I think the suggestions @JacobZ are excellent and worth considering each as a seperate project in itself. Here are a few more that again most could be treated as separate projects as finances allow:
Flooring: @JacobZ suggestion on laying Hybrid floorboards over the existing would work very well. The only point tho consider that it will raise the floor level, which will impact the adding rooms with a small step up. There are ways to address this, but the step will always be there. So as an alternative would be to lay a vinyl floor over it. There is a huge range of designs from floorboards looking to tiles.
Cupboard Doors: You could consider replacing the doors and drawer fronts with new handles with Kaboodle ones. Through the Bunnings special orders desk, they can order doors to match the exact size of the current ones.
Extend The Overhead Cupboards: Over the freestanding over that incorporates a range hood. Again there are Kaboodle options here, but off the shelf.
Kick Panels: You could fix Caboodle ones in front of the existing ones in matching colour to the cabinet doors.
Update the Splashback. @JacobZ idea of fixing an acrylic overt the existing one would be a very easy and modern solution. But if you do this then I would recommend updating your Benchtop first. There are lots of options here from DIY stone and timber.
Update the Freestanding oven: Replace this space with a caboodle cabinet that houses a front mount oven and seperate stove top in either electric or induction.
Lighting: Install under overhead cupboard strip lights. Easy low voltage DIY solutions are available. Replace the single glass light shade with low voltage LED down lights.
