How to stain an Oak table?
I have had my oak table sanded back professionally and now want it the colour of my chair , stain then a wax finish. I’ve tried Frast and Watson Hardxwax Brown , but it’s too ‘orange’ . Should I just stain it with? and then apply a wax?
cheers

Re: staining an oak table
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @queryquery. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about staining timber.
Matching a stain to your chairs can be quite tricky, as it's a bit like trying to colour-match paint just by eye and guessing. Even if a stain looks right in-store, the samples are usually applied to pine, so the colour can look quite different when used on your oak table.
If you want your table and chairs to match exactly, the best approach is usually to sand back the chairs and stain everything with the same product. Even then, if the woods are different, they may take the stain differently. You might have better luck testing a few stain options on an inconspicuous area of the table to see how they turn out before committing.
I've added an image showing the various colours in Feast Watson Prootint. Perhaps Walnut or Brown Japan might be closer matches with less orange tones.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
