I have this ? Mould or is it rubber around the top of my sink. I’ve tried cleaning with mould clear but doesn’t come off then thought maybe it should be there?
if it is mould how to get rid of it.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your kitchen sink.
It appears to be more of a silicone sealant than a rubber gasket. It's possible that the silicone got infested with mould which might have turned it black. In order to remove the silicone just on the edge of the sink I suggest using a Trojan Safety Scraper With 5 Blades to carefully cut out the silicone just on the inside of the sink edge. Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves and goggles when removing he silicone.
Once you have removed the old black silicone, I suggest putting a fresh silicone seal on the surface. I recommend using Selleys 300g White Wet Area Waterproof Silicone Sealant. You will also need a UNi-PRO Skeleton Caulking Gun in order to apply the silicone.
Here is a link to a handy step-by-step guide: How to silicone seal a bath (the techniques used are applicable to your sink)
If you happen to have a bit of the silicone left, remove the nozzle and place some cling film on the tip of the bottle twice and then screw the nozzle back on. This will preserve the silicone for future use.
