Re: How to repair slate tile floor?

Hello @gherb20

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. Its sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your tile flooring.

I've just been in contact with our tile adhesive supplier, and they suggest using the Dunlop 310ml Tile-All Plus Premixed Tile Adhesive to repair the damaged pieces.

I propose cleaning the area with a vacuum cleaner and removing as much of the dust as possible. Wipe the face of the tile underneath with a damp cloth and dry the surface with a paper towel so that the surface is totally dry and clean. Make sure that the bottom of the broken pieces are clean and free of old adhesive.

I recommend putting in only the amount you need and not overfilling the surface as the adhesive is white and will overflow and stand out if you put too much on.

If you are planning on grouting the slate cracks, I suggest getting a colour that is close to the colour of the slate tile. I suggest looking at Dunlop 800g Ready-To-Go Coloured Grout - Slate Grey.

Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How to grout tiles.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.

Hi EricL, I had similar issue with the slate tile floor.  The surface was chipped here and there.

Not sure how can I fix it. Please see attached photo. Tile issue.jpg

Re: How to repair slate tile floor?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Zhou. It's a pleasure to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about slate tiles.

It’s difficult to see any obvious damage to the slate floor from the photo you’ve provided. If the chips are only thin, recoating the floor could be a good option to improve its appearance and protect the surface. You could touch up the chipped areas specifically with a sealer, which can help blend them in with the rest of the floor.

If there are any sharp edges in the chipped areas, it would be worth sanding them down gently to prevent injuries. Slate is a naturally uneven material, but ensuring there are no sharp points will make the floor safer and more comfortable to walk on.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: How to repair slate tile floor?

Thanks Mitchel,

Which material I could get (sealer) to seal the chipping area?

The light color in the photo is the area chipped.

Thanks

Re: How to repair slate tile floor?

Slate sealer would be the product to use @Zhou. If you are just doing that lighter-coloured spot, the type won't matter. Do a test spot first to ensure the sealer gives you a similar look to what is already there.
