Hi
I have a few deep gouges on a couple of slate tiles in our kitchen area and was wondering if there is a way of making them less obvious.
I have tried using Mineral Oil and resealing and while it looks okay for a couple of days - the colour change caused my the Mineral Oil quickly fades
Is there another solution - something to re-colour/fill the gouges?
The photo below is post the latest treatment (Mineral Oil + resealing)
Would be grateful for any guidance

Hello @Brucex
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's fabulous to have you join us and thank you for sharing your question about repairing your slate flooring.
One of the drawbacks of sanding the surface of a slate floor is that when you do one section, the rest have to be sanded as well because the sanded section will stand out like new flooring.
One method to touch up the finish of the damaged slate floor is to use a Monarch 6mm ABC Synthetic Bevel Liner Paint Brush in combination with coloured sample pots.
I suggest going to the paint section of your store and grabbing coloured sample cards that are similar to your slate floor colours. Bring the cards home and place it beside your floor and see which ones are similar in shade. Once you have these colours, bring them back to the paint department and ask them mix up a batch of sample pots.
Please make sure to wash the damaged area with soap and water before you begin applying the paint.
I propose lightly brushing in the colour to cover the deep scratches so that it will visually blend in with the rest of the slate floor. You can use a sponge to lightly break up any harsh lines that the brush produces. This particular repair process will last longer than the mineral oil solution, but eventually it will be necessary to re-finish your slate floor.
Make sure to wear personal protection such as gloves and goggles while touching up your slate floor.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
