Hello! Need some help with this area above my kitchen stove. We had to fill this area after fixing a water leak. Now it’s left with an uneven surface. We tried sanding it with sanding paper but it’s extremely difficult.
. How can make this area smooth and back to it’s original condition again?
Hi @RenoPause,
Can you advise what kind of filler you've used?
You might be able to use a combination of scraping with a 100mm Sharp Edge Paint Scraper and sanding with a Trojan 120 Grit Angled Sanding Sponge to get it somewhere close to smooth.
If you've scraped and sanded it back and find it is still not as good as you'd hoped, I'd suggest using a wide taping knife such as this Kango 250mm Taping Knife to apply a plaster topping compound such as this Gyprock CSR 2.25kg Less Mess Topping Compound.
Topping compounds are designed to be smooth so they can be applied with minimal lumps and bumps. They are also very easy to sand, so they are perfect for this application.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
