has anyone found a product that can get these stains out of a concrete benchtop or is the only option to sand back and reseal . If so has anyone done this and how long did it last ?
Hello @emerson
Thanks for sharing your question in regards to our concrete benchtop. It appears that part of the sealed section of your benchtop has given way causing it to absorb oil and grease thereby making it go darker. If an abrasive cleaner was used on this section of the benchtop, it's likely what caused the sealer to be stripped off. My best advice is to sand down the surface and re-seal the top of the benchtop.
Before you begin, I suggest reading this discussion in regards to sanding your concrete benchtop safely - How to sand a concrete benchtop for an outdoor kitchen? by @tony84. Please make sure to wear personal protection such as a disposable overall, gloves, goggles and a proper respirator. I also recommend wet sanding only to reduce the sanding dust being produced.
Using cleaners and steamers will just be a temporary repair option and pretty soon your table will look like this again. It's best to do it once and to do it properly for a long-term repair. The amount of wear and tear on a new coating will depend on the day-to-day roughness the benchtop will encounter. If you have an active family with plenty of young children, you can more or less estimate that resealing will happen more often as they are not as careful as adults.
Let me call on our experienced members @markw, @Dave-1, @Nailbag and @Jewelleryrescue for their recommendations.
