How to remove a piece of furniture stuck to a drywall?
Hi,
I'm trying to remove an old piece off furniture in my kitchen. One side is glued onto the drywall. I'm not sure what that is. Glue or epoxy... but it's really hard!
I've tried sliding a putty knife but I need to hammer it through... but then I'm afraid of damaging the drywall.
Does anyone know what that substance is? and have any recommendation on how to loosen it?
Thanks!
Julien

Re: How to remove a piece of furniture stuck to a drywall?
Hi @julienf,
You’re likely dealing with construction adhesive, which is known for its strong bond. Unfortunately, removing the furniture without some drywall damage will be difficult. Even if you manage to separate it, you'll probably need to sand down the leftover adhesive and apply a skim coat of plaster to smooth out the surface.
To make the removal easier, you can try softening the adhesive with heat. Use a hairdryer or heat gun on a low setting to warm the glue, which might make it more pliable. Then, carefully work a putty knife or oscillating multi-tool behind the furniture, applying gentle pressure to loosen the bond. If heat doesn’t work, a bit of adhesive remover (such as a citrus-based adhesive remover) might help break it down, but test it in a small area first to avoid damaging the paint or drywall.
If the drywall gets damaged, patching it with joint compound and sanding it smooth before repainting should restore the wall. This process might take less time to do than trying to remove the furniture without damage.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
