How to install a single drawer dishwasher?

We purchase a (very very cheap) Fisher & Paykel single drawer dishwasher (DD60S). Now we need to work out how to instal it. It needs a cabinet space of 412mm high, 600mm wide, 580mm deep. Given the current kitchen setup and plumbing, and that we plan to redo the whole kitchen in a couple years I want to do the least possible, while still looking appealing and being functional. We are painting the kitchen cabinets soon though so we can cut down or replace doors if needed.

I had planned to install under the sink to the right side, as the left side has a separate cabinet box.
My biggest hurdle currently is the location of the S-trap.
I’ve uploaded a couple photos with the measurements of the current cabinets and where the plumbing is located.Door measurementsDoor measurementsProposed locationProposed locationIMG_2024.jpegInstallation guideInstallation guide

Re: Tips on installing a single drawer dishwasher

Hi @jazstone,

Thank you for your post asking for tips on installing a single-drawer dishwasher and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is great to have you with us.

If you would like to carry out the installation on your own, please ensure you take all necessary precautions, follow all manufacturer's instructions and be aware of the requirements before commencement of work.

It is worth noting that the installation manual states, "Installation must comply with your local building and electricity regulations." Due to this, it may be worthwhile having a plumber install the dishwasher to ensure regulations are followed.

Looking at the required dimensions from the installation manual, in relation to the measurements you've provided, it looks like to you will need to move the S Trap. Unfortunately, due to the licenced nature of the plumbing industry, this is a job a licenced plumber will have to carry out.

If you are confident in your D.I.Y. abilities, there's no reason you can't modify the cabinets yourself, but a plumber will need to move the S Trap for you.

You will likely have to add vertical support for the shelf as it would need to be cut to install the dish drawer. You would also need to cut the door on the right and modify the hinge locations to retain the functionality of this door.

It's hard to predict all the requirements without seeing the area after the S Trap is relocated, but I would be happy to assist further once this has been done.

Let me know how you go.

Jacob
