How to install a dishwasher in a small kitchen?

Hi all,

I am looking for ways to install a dishwasher under my sink, as there are no other spots for it.

I am thinking about something like this dishwasher.

Here's the full kitchen view (bench on the right hand side is only 450mm so can't fit on in on that side)

I was thinking about something like this:

Would that work? It'd leave an awful cabinet on the left, and be very tight, but I can't see any other options.

Any suggestions?

Re: How to install a dishwasher in a small kitchen?

Hello @james-h

I've been thinking about this particular installation and I'm afraid a great deal of cabinetry custom work would be necessary. Technically, it might fit in the proposed space, but it might not be a cost-effective solution. The base cabinet would have to be cut down and modified along with the kickboard. The corner door and base door would need to be cut and sealed properly to prevent moisture damage from the dishwasher.

Modifying the base cabinet will weaken its overall structure and it's something the installer will have to address when they begin cutting it up. Although plumbing is close by, electrical access is something that you'll also need to consider.

I've thought about suggesting a Bellini 45cm Stainless Steel 9 Place Setting 6 Programs Dishwasher and an Esatto 55cm Stainless Steel Benchtop 6 Place Setting Dishwasher. But I'm afraid that there is just not enough space for these appliances.

My suggestion at this point is to take very accurate measurements of the dishwasher and the space available. It's important the that the dishwasher has enough space for the door to open and the corner cabinets door is also free to open without hitting the dishwasher.

Let me call on our experienced members @redbournreno, @craftyhopper and @lifestylebymari for their recommendations.

Re: How to install a dishwasher in a small kitchen?

How did it go? Im keen to install a dishwasher in a similar size kitchen in the cabinet to the right of the sink. I need someone who does cabinetry, plumbing and electrics though and I don't know where to start..

Re: How to install a dishwasher in a small kitchen?

Hello @Katie6025,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us.

Let me tag @james-h to make them aware of your kind words and questions.

There just might be enough space for a 450mm compact dishwasher such as the Bellini 45cm Stainless Steel Dishwasher. This is on the condition that the door currently on the corner cabinet is bigger than 450mm. Can you please tell us the size of the door?

The conditions of the upgrade to take in the dishwasher remain the same, you'll need a builder, plumber and electrician to facilitate the conversion. I suggest starting with the builder who will modify the cabinetry, followed by the plumber who will sort out the water source and where the water will exit and finally the electrician who will provide power for the dishwasher.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
