Re: How I poured my concrete kitchen countertops

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @mcscc. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for sharing this inspiring project.

Those countertops came up amazing! I'm sure our members would be thrilled if you could take us through the steps you took to achieve this result. You reached a sensational level of finish, and I trust there will be plenty of questions and members wanting to try this project in their homes.

What concrete did you use, and did you polish the benchtops? If you did polish them, I'd love to know how.

Thanks for sharing again, and I look forward to hearing more about your project.

Mitchell

Morning! @mcscc

This is incredible - I've never seen this before. 😮

So many questions.

The form work. Wood ends and aluminium edging on the front?

Do you have a concrete floor?

I'm just thinking of my rickety wooden floor - would constant small movements lead to cracking - in thin areas like this?

Re: How I poured my concrete kitchen countertops

Hi Mitchell I used dingo  55mpa  high strength concrete and added a extra cup of cement to every bag.
I polished with my hand grinder starting at 50 diamond grit all the way to 3000. Passing over entire job once with every polishing pad.

Re: How I poured my concrete kitchen countertops

Only used the marine ply in that section because it wasn’t a seen face as my cooktop sits inside. As far as the strength of the strip that runs in front of cooktop it shouldn’t crack as it sits on a solid base and has cured at 55mpa and you shouldn’t have no movement in your your kitchen if you do then theres bigger issues to address structurally.
