Hi, I have high-gloss kitchen cabinets, and I’m considering changing their color. Is it possible to paint over them? If so, what type of paint and preparation process would you recommend for the best results?
Hi @shazbucket
Yes you can paint over the top I recommend a light sanding of the surface first so new paint will hold the best,
Next we will apply a high grip under coat then the final coat usually a acryilic pait of your colour choice.
Make sure you keep some spare paint in case of future touch ups required.
A small foam hand roller will do the best finish.
Under coat below.
Have fun
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @shazbucket. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about painting cabinetry.
Yes, you can paint over high-gloss kitchen cabinets, but proper preparation is essential for the best results. First, thoroughly clean the surfaces to remove any grease or grime. Then, lightly sand the high-gloss surface with fine-grit sandpaper to dull the finish and create a better surface for adhesion. After sanding, wipe away any dust. Use a bonding primer like those from the Dulux Renovation Range to ensure the paint adheres well. Follow the directions on the primer and paint products exactly for optimal results. Once the primer is dry, apply the recommended paint for cabinetry, also following the manufacturer's instructions.
