As part of our kitchen reno, we extended a portion to the edge of the wall.

This left a gap between the ceiling and new cabinets so I had to build an extension to the bulkhead.

Materials

16mm melamine boards

55mm cornice

Ceiling paint

Wall paint

Construction adhesive

Mitre saw

Mitre box

Hand saw

Stanley knife

Chisel

Hammer

I removed parts of the cornices at the edges where I planed to extend them only (no photo) using a chisel and hammer.

I built a three sided frame including a base that attached to the upper side of the cabinet below. This aligned with the existing wall and bulkhead.

I then cut some pieces of cornice to size using a mitre box and hand saw and glued them on using construction adhesive.

I also applied some plaster to tidy all the joints up.

Then I taped the wall and ceiling sections and painted them separately.

Completed the paint work and the bulkhead and cornice look like they've always been there.

Hello! This post may be a bit old but appreciate you sharing this! I plan to tackle a bit of a 60mm cornice addition to my cabinet. May I know what mitre box did you use? Thanks! Any mitre box should be fine and the Craftright 305mm Mitre Box is a great option.

If you don't already have a saw to cut your cornice with, this Craftright Mitre Box And Saw Set is also an option worth considering.
