Buffet upcycle in Hamptons style

Buffet upcycle in Hamptons style

We had moved homes and where downsizing our home. I was wanting an old style Kitchen Hutch in our new decor that I was now doing in Hamptons Décor. A Hamptons Hutch was frightfully expensive. So I decided to upcycled my old Buffet Unit and attached a separate Hutch section to buffet Unit to change the look to a more Hamptons style cabinet. I purchased the top part of the Hutch section for $100. Sanded, Primed and painted the Unit in Porters Aquasatin Explorer Blue

Best Furniture paint with great coverage. I added some Peel and stick Wall paper to the inner side of the Cabinet to recreate the look I was after. I love the look now and for so little money.

Tools

I used a sanding block, much easier than a heavy sanding machine. and has all the different grit roughness's you will need at a fraction of the cost. Truly never over sand your furniture when using a shellac primer.

Step 1

  • Clean all surfaces with sugar soap
  • Sand all surfaces lightly
  • Clean and vacuum again
  • Prime the wood with your Primer and leave overnight or as directed on the product instructions
  • Paint with your Porters Paint - 2 coats usually does the job with a roller and chip in with some soft bristle small craft brushes

Re: Best Upcycling MakeOver

Hello @LilyHamptons

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your Hampton's Hutch project.

What a fantastic and clever way of creating a kitchen hutch. You hardly notice the size difference and it visually looks like they were meant to be together. That Porters explorer blue is truly outstanding, and the addition of the wallpaper gives it excellent contrast.

Many thanks for sharing.

Eric

Re: Buffet upcycle in Hamptons style

Looks great. How did you attach the hutch? @LilyHamptons

Re: Buffet upcycle in Hamptons style

@projectmumdanni

Hi Lovely, We attached the hutch from inside the buffet Unit with some Wood Screws and some wood glue between the hutch and cabinet.

if you wanted you could use an additional small bracket at the back but we didn't feel it was necessary as it is solid enough.

Thanks for asking,
