Re: dying tree

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Cher54. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about tree health.

Could we please trouble you for a picture showing the whole tree? That would be very helpful in gauging its overall health.

Sap is usually excreted at wound sites and where you've cut the limb off is one of those. Having a few leaves brown off is of no real concern, so it would be helpful to see the whole tree before providing further advice.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: dying tree

If entire limbs are dying off, it’s critical to examine the soil conditions @Cher54 , as excessive moisture retention could be causing root rot. My best guess is that as the tree’s roots have developed, they may have hit a solid clay layer beneath the improved topsoil. This layer could trap water, keeping the roots excessively wet and leading to rot.

To confirm, you might consider gently digging around the root ball to assess the situation deeper down. Look for signs of water pooling or rotting roots. If the roots are sitting in soggy, poorly-draining soil, you may need to improve drainage further by creating a drainage channel or raising the tree slightly with fresh, well-draining soil beneath it.

Let us know what you find, and feel free to share additional photos or details about the soil and site conditions.

Re: dying tree

We dug around it yesterday couldn't see any pooling water was damp but not wet, will try digging a bit further this arvo when we get home & it cools down.  It has bn recommended to me to spray with Yates Anti Rot so we will try that as well. Some of the leaves have bn eaten  & seems to be happening more on one side than the other  actually when digging around the tree yesterday one side was very dry other side damp Will send a photo of full tree about 6 this arvo. Thank you
