Hello @janemythien

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about what turf is best for your backyard.

I suggest using buffalo grass as it is known for its ability to tolerate shady conditions. It can thrive in areas that receive as little as three to four hours of sunlight each day, which makes it an ideal choice for locations that are partly shaded, such as beneath trees or near buildings. Its wide leaf structure allows it to capture more sunlight. Please make sure to call your local store for stock levels before proceeding.

Another option would be to use decorative pebbles to add variety to your garden.

Here is a handy step-by-step guide: How To Lay Turf

Thanks Eric for your suggestion!  May I ask which brand of buffalo turf to buy?  Do I buy Sir Walter?

I love pebbles but it seems that it is more expensive than turf.  Would appreciate your advice.

Re: Which turf is best for my backyard that receives little sunlight?

Hi @janemythien,

Sir Walter Buffalo is definitely my suggestion. I have it in my backyard which is fairly shady, and it looks great all year round.

It is likely going to be worth calculating how much turf you need, heading to the Special Orders desk of your local store and placing an order to ensure you get the freshest turf possible.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
