Hi, we've recently got two chickens which free roam our backyard. We've also recently had what appears to be lawn worms or bugs in our lawn. There is quite a few wasps hovering and burrowing into the couch lawn. What are the best lawn care products (fertilisers/weed killers etc) safe for chickens. In particular something which can kill lawn bugs with no harm to my chickens?
Hi @Poyce
I dont recommend any poisions or weed killers on the lawn grubs or anything else while you have chickens there possibly give them a holiday or confine them to the chook pen for a month or two if you do use any thing. Chickens eat all those sort of bugs so will get sick.
Or you can let the chickens do what they are brillant at and thats eating and scrounging for fresh garden bugs. You have two insect eating machines there let them loose See if the bugs start disappearing.
The wasps are probaly after mud to build nests else where.
Hello @Poyce
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about lawn care products that are safe for chickens.
I totally agree with @Jewelleryrescue in regards to the safety of the chickens. Anything you put into your garden to kill the bugs will transfer to the chickens. I suggest letting your chickens do what they do best and that is to eat all the bugs in the garden. In just a few weeks you'll have a bug free garden.
