Re: Is the O'brien solar electric fence pet safe?

Hi @Cranswick,

The O'Brien solar electric fence is primarily designed for livestock, such as sheep, and delivers a low to moderate shock to deter animals from crossing the fence line. While it is generally considered safe for larger animals, it can still cause discomfort to pets, including cats, if they accidentally touch the fence.

To reduce the risk of harm to your cats, consider making the fence more visible by using markers or flags, which may help them avoid it. Training your cats to stay away from the fenced area is also beneficial. Additionally, ensuring the fence is tall enough can prevent your cats from jumping or climbing over it.

Ultimately, while the fence is designed for livestock, it's essential to monitor your pets' behaviour around it to ensure their safety. If you have concerns, consulting a professional or your veterinarian for specific advice can provide further peace of mind.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

thanks yes l will make the fence high enough so they walk under it without touching it, if the did would it be unlikely to cause death or serious injury to a cat

Re: Is the O'brien solar electric fence pet safe?

Hello @Cranswick

As Mitchell has mentioned it can cause discomfort to cats, if they accidentally touch the fence. But if your cat has a long-term sickness or has a debilitating injury it could worsen their condition if they touch the fence.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
