My Murraya in my frontyard is dying: leaves turned yellow & fell off, stems infested with green patches - fungus infection?
How to treat this?
Hello @wayne19
Your Murraya might be struggling due to stress factors like inadequate watering, nutrient deficiencies, or pests, with the green patches on the stems likely being lichen or fungal growth. To help it recover, start by pruning any dead or severely affected branches to improve airflow and reduce fungal spread.
Treat the plant with a copper-based fungicide, such as Yates Liquid Copper from Bunnings, to manage any fungal infections, applying it as directed. Boost the plant’s vigour by feeding it with a balanced fertilizer like Seasol Complete Garden Health Treatment or Osmocote for Trees, Shrubs & Citrus, also available at Bunnings. Ensure it receives consistent but not excessive watering, as overwatering can worsen fungal issues. Adding organic mulch around the base, keeping it a few centimetres away from the stem, can improve moisture retention and soil health. With a bit of care, your plant should start to recover and thrive!
Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves, goggles and a mask when spraying the chemicals. Please make sure to follow all the safety guidelines at the back of the bottle.
