please help my golden cane palm, moisture level showing in 5-6, i haven’t repotted since i bought.
Hi @Debbiee,
Greetings and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. We're delighted to have you with us.
Can I trouble you for some photos of the soil and the pot that your golden cane is in?
A moisture reading of 5-6 is fairly good, but if the soil is in poor condition or the roots are bound inside the pot, then it could still come under stress that could cause browning leaves.
Since you haven't repotted your palm since you bought it, it's likely time to do so. Repotting helps refresh the soil and gives the roots more space to grow.
I'd suggest repotting your golden cane in a pot that is around 10cm larger in diameter than the current one.
Use high-quality potting mix with added fertiliser and wetting agents such as this Scotts Osmocote 50L Premium Plus Superior Potting Mix.

Thanks so much. I will do that.
I repotted my golden cane plant, then noted below again? What should i do for rest of the plant treatment please?
Hi @Debbiee,
I've combined your new post with the old one as they provide context to each other.
Does the piece of your plant that you've photographed feel mushy or smell a bit off?
It certainly looks like it is rotten, which would likely stem from overwatering or an inability to absorb the water provided because it is in too tight a pot.
Do you have any photos of the golden cane in its new pot?
Was this the only part of the plant that looked like this?
Whereabouts on the plant did it come from?
We'll need a few more details to offer advice moving forward.
Allow me to tag @Noelle and @mich1972 to see what they think.

i have attached the full picture, hand pointed is the spot where prev rotten plant came from. I have placed in sun to dry the soil but still it keeps getting yellow and some dark, and rotting quickly. i have no idea how to save 😔
Hi @Debbiee,
I wouldn't rely on the metre solely. Stick your finger in the soil. If it is dry, then water. But don't if it is wet. If it's slightly moist, it is perfect. The soil on top looks entirely bone dry. Is the soil beneath moist when touched?
How are you watering this plant, and do you have a saucer under it? Personally, I would take it outside twice a week and thoroughly water it. Allow the pot to drain until it is no longer dripping, then return the plant inside on a saucer to catch any residual drips and keep the moist bottom off your flooring.
Can I also check how much light the palm gets? Golden cane palms prefer bright indirect light. So, depending on whether the sun hits the window directly, it could be getting too much light or not enough light.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
