How to revive our lemon tree?

Hello everyone! We've had our lemon tree for about two years now. It initially lost its leaves quickly due to underwatering but bounced back beautifully the next season. However, we soon discovered caterpillars munching on the leaves, which we removed, and we treated the tree with Yates Ready To Use Nature's Way Citrus and Ornamental Spray. Shortly after, we noticed a significant amount of leaf drop, with leaves falling off easily in the wind or when watered. We were watering the tree once a week (or when the soil felt dry). Interestingly, only a few leaves turned yellow before dropping; most remained green and appeared healthy. A few months ago, we noticed many of the branches had turned brown or black and seemed dead, so we pruned them, leaving only the green branches (hence why so many branches are missing in the photo).Currently, the only new growth is at the bottom of the tree (pre pruning as well), but leaves are still dropping despite regular watering. We also use Scott's Osmocote every 6 months. This has been happening for about a year now. Is there any way to revive our tree?

Also, since it's not looking its best and is in a prime spot in the backyard, could we repot this tree and replace it with another one? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: How to revive our lemon tree

Hello @ksm1

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question regarding your lemon tree.

Lemon trees often require a lot of nutrients as they feed quite strongly. I suggest using Yates 500mL Thrive Citrus Liquid Plant Food. I also propose changing your fertilizing schedule from every six months to every three months. I recommend using Richgro 2.5kg Black Marvel Fruit And Citrus Food as an alternative.

Here is a handy guide to watching over lemon trees: How to grow and care for a lemon tree.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
