Hi,
We have looked after two large dogs for the last 3 weeks now our buffalo lawn has gone brown and muddy... suggestions on how to bring it back to life?
Thank you!
Hi @emriley2010,
Thank you for your question about repairing buffalo grass and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is great to have you with us.
Was the turf laid recently? It looks like it may be newly laid turf that hasn't fully taken yet.
The dogs getting on it don't look to have done too much damage and there isn't much cause for concern.
As we are currently in the colder months, you'll find that the turf is dormant and will not be growing. Once the warmer months hit, your buffalo grass will begin to grow and will pull any soil that the dogs have turned up back down through its canopy.
My suggestion is to essentially wait and see. Buffalo is a very resilient grass type, and as the warmer months kick in, it should start to grow and will bounce back well. You might like to apply a liquid fertiliser such as this Liquid Fertiliser Lawn Food once the temperatures start to heat up to ensure the lawn has the right nutrients available to promote growth.
You might also like to have a read through How To Care for Your Lawn In Winter and How To Care For Your Lawn In Spring for some further guidance.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
