How to remove lawn?

Hi,

I want to remove the old lawn as it has lot of weed and installl the new lawn.

My questions are as below-

1. Do I need to cut the lawn to remove it?

2. If yes, what is the best way to remove the lawn.

3. If No, what is the best way to remove the old lawn.

4. or is it better to hire professional to reove the lawn ?

Thanks,

Vijay Wani

Re: How to remove lawn

Hi @VijayWani,

Thank you for your question about removing your lawn to prepare for a new lawn.

I suppose it depends on the area of lawn you are looking to remove.

If it is a small amount, you can remove it with a good-quality shovel with a head designed for cutting into the soil. Something like this Fiskars Post Hole Garden Shovel would be a good option. You'll need to step on the shovel to cut through the grass so you can lever it up, ensuring you remove the root layer along with the leaf. I can say from experience that this is backbreaking work and should only be considered if you have a small area to work with.

Weighing up the amount of backbreaking work it would take to manually remove your entire lawn, my suggestion is to have an earthworks company come with a skid steer and remove the lawn for you. A skid steer will turn a job that would take days if not weeks by hand into something that is done in a matter of hours.

Let me know what you think.

Jacob
