How to prevent weed growth around my lilly pilly?

Hi all,

I just planted some Lilly pilly and wonder how to prevent the weed around them

at the moment I just put a garden edge around the plant then fill with sugarcane mulch as the below pic. Is that good?

also, can I use weed killer to kill the weed on the pebbles? Will that affect the plants?

thanks

Re: Weed control around plants

Hi @minhletn,

The mulch and garden edging you've added will help prevent weeds to a certain extent. Another great way to stop weeds would be to rake back those pebbles, lay down weed matting and then cover it back up with the pebbles. No weeds will grow through the weed matting, but it will allow water to penetrate.

It's typically best to avoid using weed spray that close to plants, but if you are careful not to spray the plant, it should be fine. However, I'd recommend investing in a Zero weed wand as it allows you to apply weedkiller directly without needing sprays. When using chemicals, remember your PPE, including a face mask, gloves, safety glasses and a long-sleeved shirt and pants.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
