I'm trying to work out which spray paint brand is best for painting aluminum garden beds? Or would it be better to just paint using paintbrushes? If so, which brand of paint should we focus on?
We want plant-friendly brands.
The garden bed we are wanting to paint is from the Organic Garden Co in Zincalume:
Hi @Quilly,
Thank you for your question about painting aluminium garden beds.
I'd suggest checking out White Knight Rust Guard and Dulux Metalshield spray paints. These are good options for your project that given time to fully cure are fine for use around plants.
Give the garden beds a good clean with warm soapy water to remove any dirt or contaminants that will affect adhesion.
Once clean and dry, apply a coat of metal primer such as Dulux Metalshield Etch Primer Spraypak Light Grey, or White Knight Rust Guard Grey SLS Etch Primer Spray Paint.
Allow this to fully dry before applying 1-2 coats of your chosen metal paint, noting that it is usually best to use the same brand of paint as the primer you have used.
You should allow the paint to cure for at least 1-2 days before planting to allow any volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the paint to fume off.
