How to fix pop-up sprinkler?

Pop-up sprinkler head was not spraying, only trickling. Tried new nozzle which seemed to spray at first then reduced to trickle also. Have cleaned out, made a few adjustments to screw but now barely a trickle whilst puddle forming from below. If I push down on the pop-up whilst station is running it will spray?

Re: Sprinkler No Go

Hi @Jlz,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

It sounds like the issue with your pop-up sprinkler head may be due to low water pressure or a leak around the seal of the sprinkler head itself. To troubleshoot, first check for any blockages and clean the sprinkler head. Even if you've cleaned the nozzle, there may be debris inside the body of the sprinkler head or along the filter screen that could restrict water flow. Turn off the water, remove the sprinkler head from its base, and rinse it thoroughly.

If a puddle is forming around the base and the sprinkler only sprays when you press down, it could be an issue with the internal seal or spring inside the sprinkler. These components help the sprinkler pop up and seal tightly when retracted, and a worn or damaged seal can cause water to escape from below rather than spraying properly.

If cleaning the head and checking the seals doesn’t resolve the problem, the issue may be insufficient water pressure or a partial blockage in the supply line to this sprinkler. Check whether other sprinklers in the same zone have similar issues. If only this sprinkler is affected, try swapping it with another to see if it performs better. If the problem moves with the sprinkler, it could indicate that the head itself needs replacing. If the issue remains in the same location, there might be a clog or kink in the supply line feeding this sprinkler.

If the sprinkler head is older or appears damaged, replacing it entirely could be the best solution.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob
