Hey team,
We have a very large area of lawn filled with weeds, a lot of cape weed, sour sob, marshmellow, winter grass, summer grass, cats ear… literally everything! The grass is kikuyu grass.
We have been researching how to remove the weeds, whether we need a complete lawn Reno or not, eg scarrifying.
I'm concerned though if we scarify, we spread more weed seeds… can I please get some confirmation on how to tackle this?
Do we poison weeds first, remove, then scarify? Thanks all.
Hello @parisrose
Thanks for sharing your question about your weed filled lawn. I recommend having a quick look at our best advice - What to do when weeds overtake your lawn? If your lawn has been totally invaded by weeds and is no longer salvageable, then using weed killer and starting over would be the next step to take.
However, if it seems like there is hope for your lawn, I suggest having a look at this featured project - Lawn renovation by @homeinmelbourne. This is an excellent example of a comprehensive lawn revival project.
Here are some handy discussions and step-by-step guides:
Please remember to wear personal protection such as disposable overalls, gloves, goggles and a paint rated mask when using chemical sprays. Please make sure to follow all the safety guidelines printed at the back of the bottle.
