Compatibility of Ryobi expand-it attachments between petrol and cordless tools?

Compatibility of Ryobi expand-it attachments between petrol and cordless tools?

I have a petrol driven set of Ryobi expand-it attachments (line trimmer, hedge trimmer, pole saw).  The petrol motor is starting to fail so I'd like to replace it.  My preference would be to swap over to a cordless option.  Do the petrol attachments fit any cordless motors?  Also is it possible to purchase just the motor part, either petrol or cordless, without purchasing a tool attachment with it?

Re: Compatibility of Ryobi expand-it attachments

Hi MitchelMc,

I had the Ryobi petrol line trimmer you refer to in this forum.
I’ve actually had several, I keep buying the same trimmer because I have all the attachments (chainsaw, pole extension, hedge trimmer etc etc).

unfortunately I’ve lost a couple falling in the pool or dropped from height.

I don’t want to go to battery motor, I have far too many high hedges and lawn area for a battery powered motor to be sustainable.

I’d need 10 batteries to undertake the tasks.

Question is, why does Bunnings no longer stock the petrol engines?

I get the whole sustainability thing, I just don’t understand why Bunnings have removed my choice in what tools I use.

additionally, I simply cannot afford to purchase the battery operated tools due to the expensive cost of additional batteries that only last 30 minutes max before requiring a recharge, that end up in landfill (& appropriate battery disposal) in due course.

I have attempted to order the petrol motor through several Bunnings stores, and keep getting the same answer. “We don’t stock anymore as not environmentally friendly”

As Bunnings is the sole distributor, finding one is a challenge and I don’t want to buy online, who knows what I’ll get.

can you advise if Bunnings standpoint on this will change and you’ll let the consumer make the choice on what they use.

I am an avid Bunnings supporter, I’m in store every weekend and spend tons of money with you guys.

But I am getting frustrated.
lucky it’s winter and I’m not hedging too much right now, but spring is coming soon and I’ll need to be back up the scaffolding hedging. I’ll try to be more careful and not fall in the pool with the hedger running.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Re: Compatibility of Ryobi expand-it attachments

Hi @Stu68,

Thank you for your comments and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Unfortunately, Ryobi are moving away from manufacturing many of their petrol products including the Expand-It motors, and consequently Bunnings are not receiving further stock of them. If you'd like to know the reasoning behind this decision, I'd suggest contacting Ryobi on 1300 361 505 when they reopen on Monday for their comment.

I have spoken with our Spare Parts team who have informed me that Ryobi keep spare parts for their tools for around 10-15 years after manufacture. They may have some in their storage that you can purchase through Bunnings Spare Parts team.

I'd suggest giving the Spare Parts team a call on 1800 772 737 or submitting an enquiry through the Spare Parts page of our website. Make sure you have the model number and serial number of your motor so they can contact Ryobi to gauge their availability.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Jacob

Re: Compatibility of Ryobi expand-it attachments

Thanks JacobZ,

yeah I’ve been down the spare parts path a few times.

Always the same result, no can do.

I’ve actually just pulled into Bunnings Artarmon, I’ll ask the team again.

if no joy, will call Ryobi on Monday.

Its a shame, I’ve spent about $1k in all the expand it items, looks like it’ll go to waste.

battery power just doesn’t meet my needs. Makita or similar will be the replacement.

Just gotta justify the $$ to my wife (ouch)

thanks for replying

Is Ryobi Expand-It 26cm Brushcutter Attachment compatible with Ryobi petrol trimmer RLT254SDSO?

Commetns on this site suggest should be compatible with split shaft, but manual doesn't list RLT254SDSO as compatible
