Window Sash timbers

Hello,

I'm building a timber shed in our backyard - 19.5sqm

I'm about to make some simple window sashes - approx 670 x 420

A mix of awning and casement sashes.
Polycarbonate panes.

Shed has wide eaves all the way around which have more or less kept most of the horizontal rain in the past few massive storms away from the window spaces.

Non-complicated joinery. No turning. Cut and join with basic reinforcement.

Which timbers are recommended that I can purchase at Bunnings, please?

Thank you

Re: Window Sash timbers

Hi @pnolave,

For your window sashes, you could consider using Tasmanian Oak. It's a strong, versatile hardwood that’s widely available at Bunnings and works well for basic joinery like window sashes. To ensure it lasts in the outdoor conditions, coat it with a durable varnish or oil, which will provide better weather resistance. If you’re concerned about additional protection, you might also look into using treated pine, which could be a more affordable option, though it would need sealing to ensure it holds up well outside.
