Solid workbench modified into modular workbench

I like changing things in my workshop/garage, a while back I modified my work bench to a mobile one, I was happy with the way it turned out. You can see how I did it in my previous entry on the Bunnings Workshop site. I have been thinking of making my solid mobile workbench into a modular one, split up in three sections, that can be rejoined into one bench. Here are the photo's from start to finish, hope you like it. Lot's of photos.

Deconstructing work bench

 

No going back now, cutting starts.

Di section completed, extra timber, extra wheels installed. ( approximated cost of modification, just under $400, for heavy duty wheels, timber and toggle clamps)

Bench top was cut up and installed, the original bench top was not enough to cover the three benches, the reason is that I decided to make the the first and third bench top longer to allow for clamps, luckily I had a piece of the original bench top off cut which fitted perfectly for the middle unit.

What a wonderful modification to your already amazing bench setup, @JoeAzza. I trust having the ability to move the individual units where needed remarkably improves the efficiency of your day-to-day tasks.

Hi @JoeAzza , I have to love your modifications. Many years ago I converted all my work spaces (and "wall" hangings) to modular. It makes the workspace so much more usable than having to be  working against the wall just because the bench is stuck there. I'll never go back to one large single bench again. You've done a great job of it.

Hi @RobP    @JacobZ   Thank you for the kind comments, the work bench was a solid one piece unit, I wanted to make it a modular one, but also to have it as one unit., that is why I used toggle clamps to join it together, if you look up my entry under, Mobile bench with castors, it will show you haw it started .

I used pine studs for the frame, hardwood bench top, this was a laminated bench top., plywood for the drawers, mdc board and pine timber for the drawers, lots of glue, screws, to assemble., castors heavy duty, toggle clamps. drawer runners,  bench top mounting brackets, all available from Bunnings.

Tools used, Mitre saw, drill,  impact driver, sander, router table for mortising joins, hole saw for drawer pulls, Plus I looked up a lot of Youtube on how to build work benches. This is just a summary, please do not hesitate to ask any further questions re bench.
